Advancements in Projectors
For many of us, the days of teachers writing notes on transparencies and trying to display them properly on an overhead projector are a not-so-distant memory. Since then, most of us have resorted to using laptops for presentations, it’s still tough to show your PowerPoint on a 15” screen to a room of 20 people. Advancements in projectors, however, have made them portable, practical and mobile enough to give your presentation just about anywhere.
The Mini Projector
From Texas Instruments to cell phone manufacturers such as Samsung, mini projectors have been hitting the markets over the last year. Microvision’s SHOW is a small, hand-held device that weighs less than 8 ounces and connects to most mobile devices. According to the specifications listed on their website, it also produces a WVGA resolution of 848x480.

If you want to forego the laptop, drop your files on your smart phone and get the Samsung MBP-100 micro projector. It fits in the palm of your hand and connects to your cell phone or other mobile device. Capable of producing a 20-inch display and recently released in South Korea, this item is expected to soon hit the global markets.

For a slightly "bigger" mini projector that packs a visual punch, Texas Instruments and ViewSonic offer small projectors with high resolutions and 1500 to 2000 lumens. According to Gizmodo.com, Texas Instruments also plans to unveil Pico, a 1.5-inch movie projector that attaches to your smart phone.
From Boardrooms to Classrooms
Depending on your need, you’ll find projectors that fit every use – from small boardrooms to large class and conference rooms. Selections vary by image quality, connectivity and specialty features. Higher end models offer high resolution and luminosity. Some offer the ability to connect to multiple PCs, making them advantageous for classroom use, while others offer both wireless and wired LAN functions. Newer models even offer auto-filter cleaning systems and other low maintenance features. Projecting in High-Definition
The advent and immediate popularity of high-definition televisions also paved the way for developments in high-definition projectors. Generally much cheaper than your average 1080p resolution LCD or plasma TV, high-definition projectors have made it possible to create home theaters, gaming rooms, and have even been getting notice from movie theaters. A Texas Instruments’ press release last month announced that almost 300 IMAX theaters worldwide will be converting from film projectors to digital projectors in an effort to cut their costs for film prints while still maintaining their high standards for image quality. For the home theater or gaming enthusiast, high-definition projectors typically offer a variety of inputs to connect your DVD player, gaming console and other entertainment devices.
